NHS Professionals - eLearning Project Details

Business Need

NHS Professionals Special Health Authority provides NHS Trusts with access to a dedicated service for flexible staff recruitment and management.

Working in partnership with NHS employers, NHS Professionals provides nursing staff and hospital doctors to Trusts throughout the country.

To support its objective of providing a highly skilled and fully trained workforce, NHS Professionals offers its staff continuous professional training and development opportunities that are usually difficult for staff not on substantive contracts to access.

This is supported and delivered through eLearning which enables its Flexible Workers to access courses at their convenience.

Initially developed by an internal team, Motive Technology were brought in after an internal re-organisation to complete development, bug testing and deployment.

User Requirements

User Requirements are divided into following categories:

1. Taking Induction/Learning content
2. Trainee Account Administration
3. Customer Organisation Account Administration
4. Induction/Learning Content Administration
5. Super User

Motive Technology reviewed the specification of the eLearning application and carried out an audit of the functionality against specification, recommending some changes and upgrades to provide a structured and flexible induction to staff.

The eLearning application consisted of a web user interface layer, an application layer and a database layer.

The web user interface layer and the application layer were developed using ASP.Net to be inline with other web based initiatives for NHS Professionals. It is an organisation initiative to provide a globally accessible and centrally administered application, thus the decision for a web based solution.

As the web application needed to be dynamic and customisable, an application layer was required to manage the content. A centralised data repository was created for inputting, accessing and managing dynamic information.

It was also identified that there was a requirement for the creation of a flexible learning delivery platform for internal use by NHS Professionals. Motive Technology, through its flexible approach, has been able to support the final delivery of reliable, secure and robust product.
